A dramatic accident has overshadowed the track cycling Champions League in London. The German cyclist Alessa-Catriona Pröpster and the British Katy Marchant fell over the Plexiglas barrier at high speed in the Keirin competition and landed in the spectator area. According to Eurosport, there were no serious injuries according to initial information. However, Marchant is suspected of having a broken forearm.

The organizer explained in the evening that, in addition to the two drivers, four spectators also needed medical care. Katy Marchant was taken to hospital, according to British Cycling. The incident is now being comprehensively investigated and dealt with. British Cycling also announced on Platform X that other competitions had been canceled due to the accident.

In the Keirin competition, six athletes fight for victory over six rounds. Pictures show how Pröpster and Marchant got entangled in each other in the crucial phase of the race and then flew uncontrollably over the edge of the track.

The Track Cycling Champions League, which is held at five stations, brings together the 18 best riders in the sprint and endurance categories. The race in London marked the conclusion of this year’s series. The top German sprinters Emma Hinze, Lea Sophie Friedrich and Pauline Grabosch did not take part in this competition.
