The incident happened during halftime of the match in café Het Spoortje on Stationsweg in Alkmaar. AZ fans regularly sit in that café to watch their club’s matches.
Shortly after the match, images of the attack emerged. The North Holland police confirm that a major fight ensued afterwards. It started in the cafe and ended on the street. Dozens of people were involved in the brawl.
“The fans who attacked the café beat everything to pieces, but quickly disappeared again,” said a police spokesperson. Later, the police arrested three more suspects for public violence. Their identities have not yet been revealed.
Three arrests
Police are still investigating the case and expect more arrests to follow soon.
After the attack, the police remained on the square to prevent things from getting out of hand again. According to the police, the outflow after the match was peaceful.
