The Weeknd is causing a little more curiosity about the witches of “Oz”.
The Weeknd praised Ariana Grande’s performance in Wicked. In the staged film adaptation of the musical “Wicked – The Witches of Oz”, the actress and singer plays the “Good Witch of the North” named Glinda.
“That was fantastic”
On December 5, the Canadian singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, shared an Instagram Story. Alongside a picture of Grande standing alongside the “evil witch” Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo), he wrote: “That was fantastic, congratulations @arianagrande. So proud.”
Grande and The Weeknd have released several songs together. For example, “Love Me Harder” from 2014, “Off The Table” from 2020, and The Weeknd remix “Save Your Tears” from 2021. The 31-year-old also sang a new version of The Weeknd’s track “Die For You” in 2023 .
Even Camila Cabello can’t stop singing along
As for Grande and Erivo’s roles in “Wicked,” the actresses are also receiving positive feedback from other quarters. The musician Camila Cabello praised publicly in an Instagram story: “You were brilliant, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo,” she wrote there. “Can’t stop listening and singing.” Plus a video of the “Shameless” artist actually singing along to a song from the film. Cabello’s story has since been shared on the X platform.

The filmed musical, whose sequel is scheduled for 2025, seems to have gone well so far. According to “NME”, “Wicked” has already fetched 114 million US dollars (107,775,600 euros) domestically and 164.2 million US dollars (155,234,680 euros) worldwide for Universal Pictures in its debut. In Germany, the film will not appear on the big screen until December 12, 2024.
