Wendy van Dijk has been living with a serious fashion obstacle for years. Her stylist was never allowed to wear anything red. Why? A real TV trauma.
She would undoubtedly prefer not to be reminded of it, but at the beginning of her career Wendy van Dijk did a very wrong program: Over De Roooie. She made poor Dutch people do the most disgusting things for, at that time, a thousand guilders. Licking a toilet brush and stuff. Really strange, but apparently that was still possible back then.
Red leather jacket
Apparently Wendy was also concerned at some point, because her typical Over De Roooie outfit – a red leather jacket – displeased her so much that it left her with serious TV trauma. She just couldn’t see red outfits anymore without thinking about that show.
Wendy in the magazine of her SBS friend Linda de Mol: “At Over De Roooie I worked from early in the morning until late in the evening in an iconic red leather jacket for two years. Even years later, I still didn’t want to wear red, I hated that jacket so much.”
Kloffie
Lieve Heuvelmans has been Wendy’s regular stylist for many years. And now she can also dress Wendy in something red again. “Clothes make the woman and the right clothes give self-confidence. For example, during a live TV program, for which I discussed with my stylist Lieve what is great and what suits the show.”
She continues: “It almost feels like I’m dressing for a role and that works: I feel much better in a carefully put together outfit than in my clothes.”
Good stylist
By the way, DJ Errie, also known as her husband Erland Galjaard, is also a very good stylist, according to Wendy. “My husband turns out to be a good stylist: he buys things I didn’t know I wanted, such as a comfy suit with stripes in both trousers and sweater. How cool.”
Finally, does she find it difficult when people on the street look at her while she walks in all those stylish clothes? “I’m a dreamer and usually don’t notice it.”
