A mother and a child were shot dead on Tuesday afternoon local time at a market in Belmopan, the capital of the Central American country Belize. A second child was injured in the shooting. Based on police statements, local media report that the victims are Dutch, but this has not yet been confirmed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Based on a later statement from the police, the ‘NOS’ reports that the victims are a 43-year-old Italian woman and an 8-year-old Mexican girl.
