Only played 20 minutes

FC Bayern postponed the signing of Bryan Zaragoza (22), originally planned for the summer, to the winter in order to have another option on the offensive. However, the Spaniard hardly gets any traction and was only on the pitch for 20 minutes on matchday 22 in the 2-3 defeat in Bochum. Now coach Thomas Tuchel has given a reason for the attacker’s difficult situation.
“Bryan primarily lacks language. It’s difficult in English and German,” said Tuchel at the press conference before the home game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.). Language is “an elementary component”. Zaragoza was brought in six months earlier than planned as a replacement for the injured Kingsley Coman (27) and Serge Gnabry (28). Tuchel emphasized that they did not know how long the two wingers would be out. That’s why the German record champions “played it safe” with the Zaragoza transfer.
Zaragoza came on loan and will be signed permanently in the summer as planned. According to media reports from “Kicker”, among others, 4 million euros were due in addition to the actually negotiated sum, while “Bild” wrote of a rental fee of around 5 million euros. The information on the transfer fee fluctuated between 12 million and 14 million euros, plus performance-related bonuses between a further 2 million and 4 million euros. Zaragoza’s market value is currently 12 million euros.
Boey new at the top: FC Bayern’s winter signings
“It was already clear to me that this was a very big step for him. We feel that now too. We see his quality, but we notice that the integration is not complete from the linguistic side,” said Tuchel. It is “far too early” to make a judgment; Zaragoza is getting the necessary time from FC Bayern. “Everything is on target,” said Tuchel. While Gnabry celebrated his comeback after a two and a half month break in the 3-0 win against Lazio in the Champions League on Tuesday, Coman is expected back after the international break – i.e. at the end of March – according to Tuchel. Zaragoza will then have an even harder time.
