New world record: there will be a wooden skyscraper of 133 meters high

The tallest wooden building in the world will be in Eindhoven. It will be a ‘skyscraper’ with two towers, one of which is 133 meters high. The tallest wooden building currently stands in Milwaukee, America. The residential tower is over 86 meters high. ‘The Dutch Mountains’, as the building in Eindhoven will be called, should be ready in 2030.

The enormous wooden structure that is to be built in Eindhoven has an area of approximately 13 football fields. The two towers will house 278 homes, a hotel with 221 rooms, many office spaces and a conference center. The buildings are hybrid, for example a concrete core is used for strength.

The two towers will be 133 and 96 meters high and will be connected by a large central space that will include catering facilities. The buildings will also have a large courtyard that is accessible to everyone.

Two towers
The Dutch Mountains should be located on the north side of the station on Professor Doctor Dorgelolaan along the Dommel river and opposite the university campus.

It doesn’t just get there. In the coming years, one skyscraper after another will be built around Eindhoven Central Station. About 9,000 new homes should be built in the new district over the next 25 years.

Durable
Although the two towers are not completely concrete-free, they are largely made of solid wood, sourced from sustainably managed forests. A lot of greenery is also being created around The Dutch Mountains.

On Thursday, councilor Stijn Steenbakkers and the initiators of Urban Xchange signed the agreement for the construction of the two wooden towers. There is currently an Enexis distribution station where they will be located, but it will be moved in 2027. If everything goes according to plan, The Dutch Mountains should be ready by 2030.
