NS expects significant disruption on routes around Schiphol from tomorrow

It is still unknown what the disruption will look like. “The entire impact is still being worked out,” the NS said. “It will differ hourly as to what does and does not run. Sometimes someone will have to take a detour, sometimes make an extra transfer.”

ProRail must remove rust from tracks on Friday where no trains have run for a long time, as a result of planned work. The timetable must therefore be adjusted. This lasts from 5:20 am to 3:15 pm and takes place on various routes around Schiphol.

Last minute

According to the NS, it comes as a surprise that manager ProRail has to remove the rust. “When carrying out work, you can normally see what the consequences will be a while in advance. But this is very last minute.”

ProRail had previously announced to be busy with the planned work until Saturday March 9, which means fewer trains will run. Twelve days of work would be done on the track and the structure on which the track is located. Two switches in the railway tunnel have also been replaced and all the lighting and technical installations in the tunnel have been checked.

Hope for buses to be deployed

“If no trains have run on a track for a while, normal trains cannot immediately run on it. First, the tracks must be driven on to remove rust from the rails. This way we guarantee that the level crossings and signals work as they should again.” , the rail manager talks about the newly planned work.

The NS is updating the journey planner and advises travelers to check the travel app. The organization hopes to use buses.
