Sources in The Hague and Brussels contradict this AD.nl now that countries are openly expressing objections to Rutte as the new NATO boss. The 32 countries now in the military alliance must all unite behind one candidate.
The US previously said that NATO should quickly appoint a successor to Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, by April at the latest. Now that the government formation in the Netherlands is still at an impasse, the delay will probably not be bad for the Netherlands. Rutte would then in any case stay on as Prime Minister for longer and not resign in the very short term. It is exciting for Rutte himself.
