Safety has become one of the fundamental pillars of the philosophy of Volvo. The group’s signature Geely For years it has been working on technologies that make driving a safer experience both for the occupants of its vehicles and for other road users. The latest innovation is the “accident warning ahead”, a function integrated into the connected safety of Volvo cars, which alerts the driver of accidents what’s on your route using the real time data of a traffic control center.
This system will be in all vehicles Volvo that are compatible with the company’s connected services. At the moment, however, it is only available in Denmark. Unlike similar systems tested or developed by other manufacturers – which often use the experience of other drivers to alert other vehicles about accidents and other mishaps that may occur on the road – Volvo’s service uses the location data provided by traffic authorities of each country, although you can also use the alerts provided by other road users in compatible vehicles.
Share technology to gain security
This system is already in place in Denmark thanks to the collaboration of the Swedish firm with the General Directorate of Highways of the Danish country. When official organizations are added to the service, the accident warning system ahead of time will be able to reach more markets. Connected security technology Volvo allows communication between the company’s vehicles in real time through the cloud technology to alert other users of dangers such as slippery surfaces or accidents.
According to Volvo, the integration of More data of shared traffic in their connected services as more partners from the European road safety data ecosystem join their project, and may even count on the support of connected vehicles from other brands. “We ask road authorities to share anonymous data on traffic accidents, and we encourage other vehicle manufacturers to join us in offering similar technologies,” the company explains in a statement. “Volvo is committed to share security data connected so that others can integrate them into their security functions,” he adds.
If you own a compatible Volvo, using connected systems is as easy as activating the “Connected security” through the settings on the vehicle’s central screen to alert other users of the brand about any danger present on the road.
Bet on security
This is the latest advance in security from a brand that, in recent years, has bet everything to become a global reference in the sector on the subject. Among its achievements are the development of technologies such as Car Keya key that allows you to limit the maximum speed of the vehicle to, for example, leave it with a family member and know that it will not exceed 120km/hor the EX90 electric invisible safety shield a system that, according to Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo, can reduce accidents with serious or fatal consequences by a fifth. This shield is formed by a lidar sensor on the roof of the vehicle that will be able to scan and measure the surroundings of the car with very high precision.
We must also remember the system that recognizes if, after parking and the driver leaves the EX90, this one has “forgotten” someone insidebe it an adult, child or animal, and thus stay open and even activate the air conditioning system to avoid a fatal outcome.
All this added to the work to perfect the most common existing systems, such as cruise control or the different driving alerts, as well as driver monitoring systems. Furthermore, Volvo also limits its vehicles to a maximum speed of 180 km/hchallenging the industry in this regard.
