Evening News reported on January 26 that the former Helsinki Hall would change owners on February 28. MTV’s according to the information, there are no new stores yet.
– I would consider it a huge surprise if the deals were to be completed this week, an anonymous source told MTV.
According to MTV, the prospective buyer is a Finnish investor group that still believes in the deals despite the delay. The worry about cancellation is still there.
The shops are getting busy, because with the Russia sanctions package approved by the European Council in December, the owner must change by the end of June.
If the sale is not successful before the deadline, according to MTV, the city of Helsinki is ready to start the process leading to the expropriation of Helsinki Halli Oy.
It would be a historic measure.
– This has never been done before, says a source interviewed by MTV.
The Helsinki hall is owned by Arena Events Oy, which is on the EU sanctions list Gennady Timchenko and Rotenberg’s family business.
The Helsinki hall has been out of use since Russia started a war of aggression in Ukraine in February 2022.
