FC Schalke 04 is still worried about staying in the league. On Friday the Royal Blues will face leaders FC St. Pauli in the 2nd Bundesliga. CEO Matthias Tillmann is expecting a reaction after the devastating away defeat against 1. FC Magdeburg.
“The most important thing is that we feel from the first minute on Friday that there is a team on the pitch. A team that fights together and definitely wants to take something away,” Tillmann told the “WAZ”.
FC St. Pauli is “the best team in the league”. Nevertheless, the Schalke CEO expects something to be counted on. “We want to take points with the power of the arena,” explained Tillmann.
FC Schalke 04 is stuck in the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. 26 points mean 14th place. The lead over the relegation place, where 1. FC Kaiserslautern currently lies, is only four points. The direct relegation zone is also only four points away.
FC Schalke 04 wants to “draw the right conclusions”
FC Schalke 04 urgently needs an improvement in performance compared to their recent away defeat against 1. FC Magdeburg (0:3).
“After a game like on Saturday, we sat together for a longer time, that’s important,” revealed Tillmann about the analysis with coach Karel Geraerts and sports director Marc Wilmots: “We want to bring everyone to the same table, draw the right conclusions and do things as best as possible Change it so that it looks different again at the weekend.”
FC Schalke 04 needs results to bring more calm back into the club. After all: The last two home games against Eintracht Braunschweig and SV Wehen Wiesbaden were both won 1-0. Kenan Karaman scored the decisive goal in both games. Now FC St. Pauli is waiting for the miners.
