The public prosecutor chose to dismiss the case, but the volleyball player decided to appeal the decision
New stage in the legal case involving the general Roberto Vannacci and the volleyball player Paola Egonuquoted directly by the 55-year-old in the book The world in reverse which he published last year and which quickly turned out to be a best-seller.
The 25-year-old Italian volleyball star had been called into question by the general, now chief of staff of the Land Operational Forces Command, in a passage that for weeks had been at the center of controversy together with the other Vannacci’s theories and statements: “Even if Paola Egonu has Italian citizenship, it is evident that her facial features do not represent the Italianness that can instead be seen in all the frescoes, paintings and statues that have reached the present day from the Etruscans”.
Egonu had decided to sue General Vannacci for defamation, filing the documents in Bergamo. The documents were then sent to the Lucca Prosecutor’s Office for territorial jurisdiction given that the person concerned is resident in Viareggio. The public prosecutor opted forfiling of the complaintbut the champion challenged the decision and now everything passes into the hands of the judge for preliminary investigations.
At this point we will have to wait for the judge’s decision, which could proceed with archiving or arrange the trial for General Vannacci.
