Good Life Coffee Roasters, operating in Helsinki’s Heikinlaakso, has been selected as the best coffee roaster in the Nordics at the Nordic Coffee Fest event held in Gothenburg.

– The victory has been hard to believe. The competition was of a really high standard, and the roasters who participated in it are operators that we have looked up to even before we started roasting ourselves, says the company’s founder Lauri Pipinen.

He says that he is happy about the win especially because Nordic roasters are also held in high esteem worldwide, and they are one of the world’s highest-quality and best-known operators in the specialty coffee industry.

– There are very few competitions in the roasting industry, especially international ones, unlike for example in the brewing industry, and that alone makes this victory unique. This is a really significant competition in the industry, and a really big deal for us.

12 roasteries from different Nordic countries participated in the competition. Each roaster roasted one coffee of its own choice and one coffee chosen by the competition organizer for the competition. From these, roastery representatives and anonymous mystery tasters chose the winner based on a blind tasting.

Pipinen believes that years of hard work led to the victory.

– During the year, we taste hundreds of coffees, from which we choose the coffees that we include in our selection. We also work hard to roast them, so that we can bring out the full potential of each coffee. We don’t just settle for good, we always strive for better. In addition, our roaster Richard Shannon is a rock-hard professional.

The Helsinki roaster left behind, among others, the Norwegian Tim Wendelboe, the Danish Coffee Collective and the Swedish Drop Coffee.

The roastery operating in Heikinlaakso turns ten years old this year. Paahtimon was founded by Lauri Pipinen in 2014. In 2016, he joined the company Aleksi Kuusijärvi.
