When looking for a successor to coach Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool FC probably also has a German on the list. National coach Julian Nagelsmann is said to be a candidate for the “Reds”.
Jürgen Klopp is quitting as coach at Liverpool FC in the summer after nine years. The German could be followed by a fellow countryman at the Premier League club. National coach Julian Nagelsmann is considered a candidate. This is reported by the English newspaper “Telegraph”. The 36-year-old’s contract with the German Football Association initially only runs until the end of the home European Championship this summer. After that he would be free to move to the English league leaders.
Alonso remains the preferred candidate
The preferred candidate for the Reds should still be Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, who used to play at Anfield himself. However, Alonso is also considered a candidate for the coaching position at FC Bayern Munich. The German record champions are looking for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, who will have to vacate his position at the end of the season.
Alonso recently did not want to take part in the speculation about himself. “I’m a coach here right now, that’s for sure. I don’t have anything more to say about the future, we’ll see,” said the current Leverkusen coach. He repeatedly expressed his understanding of the questions and dismissed them all professionally. “It’s normal that there are these questions, but this is not the right moment for me to talk about them,” he said.
In addition to Alonso and Nagelsmann, Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon is also said to be part of Liverpool’s inner circle of candidates. The 39-year-old former professional has been coaching the top Portuguese club since 2020. In 195 games he has a strong points average of 2.25.
