FC Schalke 04 has to continue to worry about staying in the 2nd Bundesliga after their next away defeat.
Coach Karel Geraerts’ team lost 3-0 (0-3) at 1. FC Magdeburg, mainly due to a weak first half, and in 14th place is only four points ahead of the relegation place.
Silas Gnaka (17th), Mo El Hankouri (35th) with a penalty kick and Tatsuya Ito (45th + 2) made things clear before the break. Schalke, who lost on their own for the third time in a row, improved after the break but failed to capitalize on their chances.
“I’m fed up and I’m not taking myself out of it. I’m sorry that we play such shit every week,” said S04 professional Paul Seguain on “Sky”. “I hope it hits this week. We have to put some eggs on the table.”
FC Schalke 04 missed the entire first half
Before the game, only one point separated the two teams in the table, but initially only the FCM appeared determined. Gnaka took advantage of the first opportunity to take the lead, putting a damper on the guests – and the second followed shortly afterwards.
Cedric Brunner hit Ito with his hand in the face, referee Christian Dingert decided on a penalty after viewing the video images. El Hankouri didn’t miss the opportunity and shortly before the break he made it 3-0 through Ito.
In the second half, Magdeburg took things a little slower. Goalkeeper Dominik Reimann was now challenged more often, but the hosts survived Schalke’s first phase of pressure after the break.
