Leader SV Urk gives HZVV third defeat in a row

FOOTBALL – HZVV Hoogeveen lost at home to league-leader SV Urk for the third time in a row in the Hoofdklasse B. This puts it closer to the relegation zone. It became 1-2 for the visitors at home.

HZVV started the match strongly and came dangerously in front of keeper Richard Strijker’s goal several times. However, Noah ten Brinke and Kelly Joao lacked precision, as a result of which goals were not scored in the opening phase. In the continuation of the lively first half, Urk came more and more into the game and even took the lead after 34 minutes. It was Lucas Schraal who was attentive after a reversed free kick, the rebound was for the attacker who ensured that the leader went to rest with a lead: 0-1.

Lively HZVV

The deficit then seemed to be quickly turned around, but a header from captain Alex Zomer was cleared from the line. In the following twenty minutes, a sloppy phase followed in which both teams were unable to create much, until Urk’s 0-2. It was top scorer Hessel Snoek who came in front of his man and walked in a low cross.

HZVV did not leave it at that and came back to 1-2 via Kelly Joao. The attacker took a long pass from Alex Zomer well and remained cool-blooded in front of the goal. That wasn’t enough for the win. HZVV was unable to make the much-wanted equalizer and lost for the third time in a row. “We are having trouble getting into our rhythm after the competition has resumed, but I’m not worried about relegation. We have far too much quality for that,” said trainer Rick Mulder.

Spot 12

Due to the defeat, HZVV is now 12th in the ranking, just above the danger zone. Next Tuesday, the team will play the make-up game against number 6 DETO, in Vriezenveen.
