9 teams unbeaten for longer
What Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich currently have in common is that their last defeat came at VfL Bochum. This happened with Munich in a 2-3 draw on February 18, 2024 and with the Werkself it was a 0-3 draw on May 27, 2023. Since then, coach Xabi Alonso’s team has been unbeaten in 33 games: after the 2-1 (1 :1) against FSV Mainz 23 times in the Bundesliga, 4 times in the DFB Cup and 6 times in the Europa League. It is the longest streak without defeat by a German team since 2000 and the tenth longest in Europe’s top 10 leagues.

Hansi Flick’s Bayern were responsible for the Bundesliga’s previous record from December 11, 2019 to September 24, 2020, when there was no defeat for 32 games and the treble including the Champions League was won. The supposedly small triple of championship, cup and Europa League is possible for Alonso’s men this season.
On the way there, one could tackle the longest unbeaten streak of this millennium: Juventus Turin remained undefeated in 43 games for almost a year from May 2011 to May 2012, thereby laying the foundation for nine Scudettos in a row.
The teams that have played at least 32 games in a row without defeat across all competitions almost all have one thing in common: they won the championship during or as a result of their run. The only exception is PSV Eindhoven, which, despite 39 unbeaten games in a row from March 2009 to January 2010, only finished third in the 2010/11 Eredivisie behind champions Twente Enschede and Ajax Amsterdam. Bayer Leverkusen could also come away empty-handed this season – but the chances are currently good that Bayer will celebrate its first German championship by May 2024 at the latest.
