Former Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer has announced his resignation as chairman of the supervisory board of two subsidiaries of the insolvent Signa Group.
Gusenbauer will resign from the supervisory boards of Signa Prime Selection AG and Signa Development Selection AG at the end of the next general meetings and will not stand for re-election, the two companies, which filed for bankruptcy shortly before the turn of the year, announced on Thursday. Gusenbauer therefore announced that it would convene the relevant general meetings “as soon as possible after the announced creditors’ meeting on March 18, 2024”.
The SPÖ politician, who headed the Austrian government from the beginning of 2007 to December 2008, had recently been sharply criticized, particularly by his own party, because of his activities for the Signa Group.
By withdrawing from the supervisory boards, Gusenbauer now wants to contribute to a new start for the two companies. With the upcoming creditor meetings, Signa Prime Selection AG and Signa Development Selection AG are “entering a new phase in their development,” he explained in a statement. “This new beginning also requires a realignment of the organs in order to be able to go into the future with new confidence.”
