Tim den Besten made the news in a bizarre way almost four months ago: it turned out that he was both a Grindr thief and had cancer. “How is he now? We don’t hear anything!”
The most controversial VPRO star at the moment is undeniably Theo Maassen, but a few months ago Tim den Besten was still in the lead. The presenter appeared to have been guilty of disgusting and possibly criminal misconduct on the gay dating app Grindr, with which he created several victims.
Grindr crook
Tim did not provide a substantive response, but suddenly revealed that he was suffering from a rare form of cancer. The timing was very striking; Johan Derksen even said he hoped that the presenter would not make up his sickbed to divert attention. The KRO-NCRV decided to take him off the air immediately, but the VPRO continued to hold on to him.
Anyway, how is the 36-year-old Grindr crook doing these days? “I suddenly wondered this morning: how is Tim den Besten doing now? Because we haven’t heard anything about that for a while,” said reporter Jordi Versteegden in the podcast Strictly Private.
‘We don’t hear anything anymore’
Private boss Evert Santegoeds also knows little about it. “We don’t hear anything about that at all. No update on his illness. The news about this came out at the same time as the case about very inappropriate behavior, but management, broadcasters, everyone keeps quiet about it. This mainly has to do with the disease that has the upper hand for a while.”
He continues: “But yes, it is a matter that will have to be settled one way or another. I don’t know when an update is expected, but he has undergone treatment and it will gradually become clear whether it has been successful or not.”
Medical team
How is Tim doing medically? Jordi: “I just received a response from his lawyer, who cannot say much about a lawsuit, but can say that the medical team will be spoken to in mid-March to see whether the treatments have been successful.”
Evert: “It remains to be seen whether they will announce that. There are rumors about the nature of the disease, but yes, that is speculation and we will not comment on that.”
Heavy treatment
Jordi understands that it is still a difficult period for Tim. “In any case, he is recovering from the heavy treatment,” it is said.
It is unclear exactly which form of cancer Tim has.
