Gary Anderson is in strong early form this year. Although the two-time darts world champion missed his second tournament victory of the young season, he set an impressive 180 record.
Anderson reached the final of the third Players Championship tournament of the year, narrowly losing 7:8 in the legs against his training partner Ryan Searle.
Previously, the “Flying Scotsman” was able to beat Jeffrey de Graaf (6:3), William Borland (6:2), Jim Williams (6:3), Jeffrey Sparidaans (6:0), Peter Wright (6:2) and Callan Rydz (7:4) prevail. Anderson impressed with his high scoring.
The 53-year-old scored a maximum of 180 points a total of 41 times (in 66 legs played). The darts superstar set a record for Players Championship tournaments. Previously, Dave Chisnall and Dirk van Duijvenbode held the record with 35 180s each.
Darts: Will Gary Anderson end his major drought?
Anderson had recently won the second Players Championship tournament of the young season. Now Searle slowed him down in the final. The Englishman had also reached the final in the previous two events, but came up short.
Anderson won three titles on the Pro Tour last year. Meanwhile, the big hit at the major tournaments failed to materialize. At the last Darts World Cup in Ally Pally, the 2015 and 2016 world champion was eliminated in the round of 16 against frightening favorite Brendan Dolan.
Anderson has been waiting for a major triumph since 2018. With his first appearances in 2024, the darts veteran set his first scent mark. The next big highlight for Anderson is the UK Open (March 1st to 3rd) in Minehead. Before that we continue on the Pro Tour.
