Comedian Ismo Leikola says that both work and dating life go well in the United States.
– Keep playing more and more, and in bigger places. Things are progressing, this is exciting work, comedian Ismo Leikola tells his news from Los Angeles.
Leikola moved to the United States in 2015 and her career abroad has progressed “quite well from the beginning”. Now, however, Leikola feels that she is on the verge of something bigger.
– It took quite a few years for this to really go into a bigger gear. But now it seems that the sky really is the roof here. Or not really either.
– The whole career here has started to take off even more recently, Leikola is happy to Iltalehti.
The size of the comedian’s gigs has increased, and this weekend Leikola will perform in New York.
– The big theater there is sold out. The biggest gig I’ve done here so far.
– It feels good, there’s a gig in Washington DC right after. Both of these have already been full for a long time.
Reputation grows
Leikola says that she is doing her part to put Finland back on the “world map”.
– They don’t really know Finnish humor or Finland here. Some who are WWII fans know about the Finnish Winter War. But the man in the street doesn’t know anything about Finland here.
However, Leikola’s own reputation is spreading even further.
– It’s great that I’ve heard from a lot of people that when someone introduces himself to the world that he’s from Finland, it’s immediately known that “he’s from Finland, do you know there’s a comedian like Ismo there”, laughs Leikola.
– It’s exciting that even though I’m mostly in the Yankees, my social media is being followed in surprising places. The English language can spread anywhere. I’ll probably have to set up a world tour here soon.

In the United States, Leikola talks about the Finnish sauna at her concerts, among other things. The differences in the American and Finnish dating culture have also come to the fore.
– I don’t know if there is any such topic that would be too taboo, probably not. But you always have to go through trial and error. Yes, making comics in Finnish is more natural to me, even though the languages are almost on par now.
Dating is going well
In 2022, Leikola said that she will spend her first single summer. The comedian says that the single summer is still going on because it’s always summer in Los Angeles.
– Yes, I have been on a date in the Yankees. There seems to be a different dating culture here. Finland is perhaps more modern in that respect and here is more traditional.

– Yes, after marriage it takes a while to learn to be single, but it has started to flow here.
– Encounters happen through mutual acquaintances or at evening parties. Comedy clubs will also be active. However, I would say that dating apps is the biggest way to meet people. That’s where I’ve found most of my dates, Leikola reveals.
Even though dating has started to go well, the comedian still doesn’t have a single effective punchline in his pocket.
