Can sportsmanship and safety coexist? According to Toyota, yes. We are in California, on the Thunderhill track, for the first time guests of TRI, the Toyota Research Institute which invited us to discover Toyota’s applications in the field of autonomous driving and test the technologies that anticipate the vision of the Japanese giant in the field of robotics applied to cars. The Toyota group, involved at the forefront of motorsport with the Toyota and Lexus brands, firmly believes that the car is differentiated from other forms of transport precisely by the pleasure of driving itself. For this reason it is developing assistance systems capable of providing support even in extreme driving situations. First we tested autonomous drift on the 750 horsepower Toyota Supra, then an exercise on the track on the driverless Lexus LC500 gave us the idea of a future in which the car will be able to guarantee the safety of passengers and occupants while still preserving the fun.
