Shots overshadow Kansas City Chiefs parade

The Kansas City Chiefs’ big parade after their fourth Super Bowl title was overshadowed by a serious incident.

Shots were fired on the sidelines of the event. Several people were shot in the city of Kansas City, Missouri, the police said on X, formerly Twitter.

The police assume one fatality and 10 to 15 injuries. Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a press conference. TV images showed how the event site was evacuated.

According to police, the shots were fired near the train station near a parking garage. It is unclear whether the crime was connected to the victory parade.

Mahomes and Co. were previously celebrated by thousands

The team around star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was loudly cheered by thousands of fans along a 3.22 kilometer route through Kansas City. Players and coaches traveled in a red double-decker bus. Since many schools remained closed for the day, there were also numerous children among the fans.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25:22 after overtime in an exciting final in Las Vegas on Sunday. The Chiefs had previously won the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1970, 2020 and 2023.
