Someone was injured in his hand at the asylum seeker center (azc) for young refugees in Oosterhout on Wednesday evening around eight o’clock. According to a 112 correspondent, this was preceded by a stabbing. The police turned out en masse with several police cars and approximately sixteen officers.
Three other residents of the asylum center were taken for questioning at the police station. Due to the language barrier, not much is clear yet. According to a police spokesperson, they have not been formally arrested.
The asylum center is located on the two top floors of the GR8 Hotel on the Beneluxweg. There is room for sixty refugee teenagers. Several residents previously complained in the media about an unsafe atmosphere and neglect in the shelter. For example, they would not receive medical care, drug deals would take place in the parking lot and the refugees would sometimes not see a guardian for a month.
The shelter opened in 2021 and would actually close when the new reception location for young refugees at Elschot opened in 2023. But due to the shortage of shelter places, both locations are now open. The lower floors of the hotel are intended for regular hotel guests.
