From sausage rolls to polonaise: this is how we saw Carla in Heel Holland Bakt (episode 3)

Carla from Zoetermeer is participating in the eleventh season of All of Holland Bakt. During the third episode, the participants have a party in the tent, because the theme is carnival. Carla excels at her sausage rolls with an Italian twist and makes a tropical meringue pie. With just a little too much drink, according to jury member Janny.

In the television program All of Holland Bakt hobby bakers show their best side. The broadcast consists of three assignments: your own creation based on a classic recipe, the technical assignment and the spectacle. The theme of the third episode is ‘carnival’. Carla says in the February 11 broadcast that she has nothing to do with carnival: “I have my own prince at home.”

For the first assignment, the hobby makers make eight Brabant sausage rolls with their own twist. Carla uses her Italian roots and makes a filling of Parma ham. Jury member Robèrt says that her ‘Salcicce & Pane’ is very similar to the Brabant sausage roll and Janny praises the dough and filling: “It tastes delicious.”

Buttons and in the cinnamon sugar

For the technical round, the amateur bakers are given the task of baking nuns’ cloths. To do this, they twist strands of dough into a certain knot shape and fry this sweet delicacy in the deep fryer. Then a layer of cinnamon sugar goes on top. Carla’s nuns’ cloths once again receive a positive assessment from the jury. “They are a little too dark, but baked quite well,” says Robèrt.

Always ready on time

To stay with the carnival theme, the participants bake a polonaise as a spectacle. This meringue cake is filled with cream, ice cream or fruit. Carla turns it into a Caribbean feast with her filling of pineapple, orange and liqueur. She covers the inside with chocolate so that the fragile cake stays upright. “That’s very smart of you,” says Robèrt. It is striking that Carla regularly finishes on time and even helps stressful fellow bakers. In episode 3 she participates in Pien’s meter-beer spectacle. Carla also received a passing grade from the jury for her Caribbean Carnival meringue cake. “But you can drink less,” says Janny.
