In the last two years, 31 points were enough: a similar threshold will tend to be confirmed this season too
They all go slowly and it happens regularly now. Until a few years ago, coaches fighting for survival always repeated the same phrase: “We hope to score 40 points soon”. Now many fewer are enough. The last time the fourth-bottom team finished the championship at that level was 2011-12, when Genoa reached 42 points. Since then the average of the seventeenth team has been 36 points and in the last two seasons they have saved themselves with 31 (with a playoff in 2022-23). The current projection of Verona And Udinese (on the pitch tonight against Juve), who today have only two teams lower, is actually around 31 points: far from the threshold of 40 that once divided heaven from hell. There are still many games left between now and the end of the championship, so it’s difficult to make a prediction.
