There is at least one component of the braking systems produced by the group Brembo in the nineteen cars in the category Hypercars who will compete in the endurance world championship Fia Wecdeparting the weekend of 24 And February 25, 2024 from the Qatar. The Lombard brand, also owner of the British brand Ap Racingthus confirms himself among the protagonists of the world championship series promoted byAutomobile Club de l’Ouest in synergy with the Fia through the supply of specific equipment, from discs to calipers, from pads to clutches, intended for cars prepared by nine builders (Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Isotta Fraschini, Lamborghini, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota) currently engaged in the premier class.
titles, innovation and prospects
—
The success story between Brembo and the FIA World Endurance Championship had its natural evolution with the transition from prototypes Lmp1 to the most modern Hypercars, integrating perfectly into a global program in the world of motorsports which, only in the 2023 season, he brought to the Stezzano headquarters seventy new world titles, from F1 to MotoGP, passing through (among others) Superbike, MX-GP, the WRC World Rally Championship, the GT and IMSA championships and Formula E (for which it is the sole supplier). As regards the WEC, after having contributed to the success of the hundredth edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans debuting as Braking Technology Providerthe attention of the Bergamo company focused on optimizing ventilation and measurements of the discs, which have a maximum thickness of 38mmwhile the maximum diameter is 380mmwith an expected distance that goes beyond 6,000 km. There are 432 disc ventilation holes, with a range operating temperature between 250°C and 850°C. On Hypercar cars the friction material is carbonwhich manages to better combine the ability to dissipate heat and lightness.
balance, reliability and performance
—
In view of the seasonal debut of the championship, Brembo technicians focused on finding the best balance between lightness of the braking systems, maximization of stiffness and guarantee of reliability. In particular, this last point represents a fundamental aspect of endurance racing given that, if used in the correct conditions of use, the friction material (carbon, precisely) lasts for an entire competition, without the need for replacement during the race in progress. “The incredibly low wear also allows performance to be maintained unchanged and repeatable from start to finish – they explain from Brembo – In a regularity competition, in which the car crosses extremely variable conditionshaving a braking system that guarantees repeatable performance and predictable response is certainly one of the keys to success.”
