Harkimo told about it in connection with the Boat Fair organized in Helsinki on Friday.
– This is what I’ve been dreaming about since I was a little boy. And I decided a long time ago that one day I would do it and that day is now.
Harkimo participates in the Golden Globe Race with his solo sailing. The competition starts in France in 2026 and ends in the same place in 2027.
It is the same race that Tapio Lehtinen has participated twice. In 2018-2019, Lehtinen was one of the five to complete the sailing and the last to reach the finish line.
In 2022, Lehtinen’s race was interrupted when his Asteria boat sank.
Harkimo says at the fair that he named the project “The Voyage”. He says that he has been preparing the project for days.
Harkimo is following in his father’s footsteps. Harry “Hjallis” Harkimo sailed around the world alone 35 years ago.
