Russian minister killed in Ukrainian attack on bakery | War Ukraine and Russia

A Russian minister has been killed in a Ukrainian attack on a bakery in the occupied Luhansk region in the east of the country. Local media report this. Moscow considers the attack an act of terror.

Last Saturday, Ukraine attacked a bakery in the city of Lysychansk, barely ten kilometers from the front line. According to Moscow-appointed government leader Sergei Kozlov, a total of 28 people died, including a child. Among the victims was Aleksey Poteleshchenko, the Minister of Civil Defense in Luhansk. His body was recovered from the rubble earlier today.

Poteleshchenko became minister in the autumn of 2023. Before that he was head of the fire brigade.

“Terror attack”

Russia strongly condemns the Ukrainian attack. “The continued attacks on civilian infrastructure, in this case a bakery, are a terrible terrorist attack,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The Ukrainian army has not yet responded to the attack. Lysychansk city authorities have confirmed the attack and claim that the bakery was not a civilian target because it was used to work for soldiers at the front.
