Johanna Puff is one of the positive surprises in the current biathlon season. Now the DSV ski hunter dreams of winning a medal at the World Championships in Nove Mesto.
Thanks to her strong performances in the second-class IBU Cup, Johanna Puff has worked her way into the German squad for the 2024 Biathlon World Cup. No wonder that the 21-year-old draws a positive interim conclusion about her season.
“The goal was to qualify for the IBU Cup and to perform as well as I could. The fact that it was going so well and that I was able to achieve two individual victories and show consistently good results was really cool anyway. “The highlights were definitely my first two World Cups, in Lenzerheide and in Antholz,” Puff is quoted as saying in an official association statement.
The biathlete was particularly satisfied with her shooting performance, “it has stabilized well.” “I’m not completely happy with running yet, but the season isn’t over yet,” noted Puff.
The highlight of the current biathlon winter is now on the agenda: the World Championships in Nove Mesto (February 7th to 18th).
Biathlon World Cup 2024: Puff dreams of a relay medal
Puff described her approach by “going there with a very open mind, looking at everything during training and looking forward to what’s to come.”
“I just want to use the two weeks to gain as much experience as possible. Especially for the next few years, I believe that being able to take part in the World Cup will help me progress. I’m more of a mental person – I can do a lot Absorb energy through positive experiences. I’m going to Nove Mesto with a smile and hope that I can support the team well,” said the DSV hope.
At the same time, Puff dreams of winning precious metal with the team: “My greatest wish would be to be able to start in the relay and win a medal.”
The 21-year-old won two IBU Cup races this winter. She also competed twice in the Biathlon World Cup. The best result was 35th place in the shortened individual in Antholz.
