The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. According to several eyewitnesses, a black Range Rover flew past at high speed on the emergency lane. “When the black car passed the truck from the right, it suddenly drove diagonally in front of the truck and ended up against the guardrail and then against the side of the emergency lane. The truck tried to swerve from the car, but it veered and ended up on its side on the road surface.”
Police confirm that the black car was traveling at more than 200 kilometers per hour. This black Range Rover was registered that same evening at 5:56 p.m., according to the RDW.
The truck driver was in the car with his wife. They were both taken to hospital, the woman was said to be seriously injured. The ambulance could not leave because the entire road surface was full of rubble. The fire brigade had to cut open the guardrail so that the ambulance could pass through.
Cargo full of chicken
The cargo of the truck contained frozen chicken legs. Little is left of the truck.
There were two men in the black car, both of whom were taken to hospital. Officers were taken to the hospital because these men were arrested. The car is also believed to contain prohibited substances. The police cannot say more about this yet.
The police suspect that the highway towards Waalwijk will be closed until at least 7 a.m. on Sunday morning. Traffic towards Den Bosch had to drive via the hard shoulder. An eyewitness indicates that more than twenty cars drove back towards the Ei van Drunen on the wrong side of the road as wrong-way drivers. This was accompanied by considerable speed, which created dangerous situations.
