Magdeburg striker Luc Castaignos has been seriously insulted on social media. His club is considering legal action.
Luc Castaignos, striker of 1. FC Magdeburg, was racially insulted on social media after the second division game against Holstein Kiel on Friday evening. The Dutchman shared the insult on his private Instagram account. “I take full responsibility for my missed penalty, but I don’t accept that people can say anything. Stop writing racist messages,” the Dutchman wrote over a screenshot of the message.
His club supported his player in a message on its homepage. “1. FC Magdeburg has a clear stance: The entire club stands for tolerance and diversity and is committed to opposing any form of discrimination and racism,” it said. “Luc, we are firmly at your side, the entire 1. FC Magdeburg lives diversity and tolerance.”
Association is considering legal action
The club strongly condemns these insults and distances itself from the person who wrote these disgusting sentences. “The club will also consider legal action to ensure that such behavior is punished,” the statement said.
Castaignos missed a hand penalty when the score was 0-1. Magdeburg scored another point with a goal in stoppage time.
