The Sassuolo midfielder, a prized piece on the transfer market, left the pitch to the applause of the Vancouver crowd. In the end, tempers flared after a spat between the two coaches
The uncontrollable tears of Madibo, the Qatar midfielder who caused the drama. And the pain of Ismael Koné, midfielder for Canada and Sassuolo, who ends up in hospital with a terrible injury at the start of the second half, with the match already largely decided. Suddenly in Vancouver the frost falls on the celebration of the home team, headed towards their first victory at the World Cup and qualification for the round of 32.
The shock
—
Koné was immediately surrounded by his companions, to protect his suffering from television images. Many were in shock at the pain of their friend on the ground. Madibo was then sent off for the foul, leaving Qatar with 9 men while Ismael was taken away on a stretcher to the applause of the crowd. Saliba replaced him when Canada won 3-0; then the Anderlecht midfielder scored the fourth goal for the Canucks and showed the public his teammate’s number 8 shirt. His World Cup ends here but there is also enormous concern for next season, given that his leg certainly suffered a bad fracture.
the quarrel
—
In the end the Canadians form a circle and give each other courage. They can’t be completely happy about their first ever World Cup victory because of what happened on the pitch. Technical commissioner Marsch went to ask his Qatari colleague Lopetegui for explanations. But he didn’t like the Spanish coach’s response so much that the two didn’t even shake hands while a fight broke out between the two benches in the middle of the pitch. Marsch then went to gather the applause of the stadium, venting the tension for a beautiful evening on a technical level but very sad due to the injury of a key player.
