Daft Punk: “Random Access Memories” sequel reportedly in the works

A new album is to be created from older recordings.

Daft Punk are said to be working on a follow-up album to their final work “Random Access Memories”. But: Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel are not celebrating a reunion (the duo separated in 2021 and said goodbye to Daft Punk) and therefore no new music is being created. The French tend to work on recordings that were made in 2013 for their last mega-seller and remained unreleased.

Session drummer Quinn shared the news in a new video about the making of “Random Access Memories.”

“On ‘RAM,’ I was pretty much the last person on the record,” he said. “The next record Daft Punk worked on, I was the very first one.”

Quinn also shared that he was able to observe Daft Punk in the early stages of the songwriting and recording process. “Thomas Bangalter had a keyboard and a computer program and he just experimented. He just hit things. We were literally just trying to get the vibes across. He was sitting at the beautiful mixer in there. I was in the studio and started playing my weird drums… Whatever he gave me, I answered and tried to find something.”

He hopes that the lost Daft Punk recordings will now see the light of day. “This untitled record, I think, will consist of spontaneous recordings,” he said, speaking of the LP that would serve as the follow-up to “Random Access Memories.” “I remember playing this one thing – my piano board, the inside of a piano – I put my kick pedal on the strings and played it like a kick drum. I remember the boys thought it was really great. I don’t know if it’ll be on the record. It was the craziest, strangest things.”

Speaking about the status of the album, Quinn said: “I keep getting back to them. I was told they are working on it. I asked Daft Punk for permission to talk about it in another article because, as you know, they are very secretive. And the greatest boys.”

Regardless, Daft Punkt has maintained their legacy since the split three years ago. Last year, for the 10th anniversary of “Random Access Memories,” a new edition was released, and a little later a version from which the drums were cut out. So the French can’t let go of their smash album, which contained a global hit with “Get Lucky”.

Bangalter has been on the solo path since 2021. Most recently he was announced as the composer of the soundtrack for the film “DAAAAAALÍ”. The news was announced on Instagram on January 9th via Ed Banger Records (Justice, Breakbot), who will be releasing the soundtrack on their label.
