Worked as Princess Diana’s butler at the British court Paul Burrell believes King Charles plans to abdicate within the next decade. According to Burrell, Charles would make the decision a prince to Williamwho would take his place as the new king.
Burrell, who served Diana from 1987 until her death, says Charles may be planning to abdicate like Queen Margaret of Denmark. Burrell speculates that Charles has a 10-year plan to “buy time” for William.
– I think it (abdication) will happen in this country. I think the king and queen have given their work 10 years, says Burrell The New York Post by.
– I don’t think he wants to continue as king when other European monarchs have realized that they can hand over the crown to their heirs.
In the last decade, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Albert of Belgium, King of Spain Juan Carlos and most recently the Margarets have voluntarily stepped aside from their thrones.
Charles’ predecessor, Queen Elizabeth, assured during her lifetime that she would rule until her death, as she did. Burrell says Charles doesn’t necessarily have to follow in his mother’s footsteps.
– The queen would never have done that because she was from a different generation and her whole life was shaped around the monarchy.
– I think King Charles has a different approach than his mother. I think he works hard for 10 years and then says it’s time to retire and watch his son William flourish.
Rumors about Charles’ future as British monarch were sparked when Queen Margaret of Denmark announced in her New Year’s speech that she would abdicate. Margareta’s decision was influenced by her health problems.
The health of 75-year-old King Charles caused concern last week. Charles stayed in the hospital for three nights from the 26th to the 29th. January, when he was treated for an enlarged prostate. He was supposed to spend only two nights in the hospital.
