Tina Nijkamp expects that Rob Kemps will actually lose his exclusive contract with SBS 6. “It really doesn’t look good for him, otherwise we would have heard something.”
Rob Kemps’ TV career seems to have reached a dead end due to a combination of low viewing figures and a destroyed image. His exclusive contract with SBS 6 is about to expire and there has still been no news about an extension. And while Jan Versteegh festively announces that he has one new two-year contract has signed…
Ending contract
It doesn’t look good for Rob, says ratings expert Tina Nijkamp, also former channel boss of SBS 6. She mentions Jan’s contract extension in her podcast Tina’s TV Update ‘surprising’. “Because many presenters now get a freelance contract instead of a permanent contract with a channel.”
So not Jan. “He can stay with Talpa for another two years and that raises the question: what will happen to Rob Kemps now? Because Jan Versteegh’s contract actually only expired on April 12 and Rob Kemps’ contract expires in March.”
‘Does not look good’
Oops, Tina continues. “Yes, that doesn’t look so good for Rob Kemps, otherwise we would have heard long ago that the contract had been extended by a year or two. I think Rob Kemps is simply done with Talpa and will continue as a freelancer.”
Rightly so, she thinks. “Not surprising, because Rob was only seen last year with My Tribute to Elvis and we haven’t seen him present anything else on that channel for a long time, while Jan Versteegh is working on his way there again – he is now doing No Way Back and Allies, among others.”
Good hope
Rob himself still seems to believe in a contract extension. “I really see SBS as my club, yes. Yes, absolutely,” he said recently.
“Of course you prefer to choose someone where you can make the most beautiful programs and I still really believe that I can do that at SBS.”
