When you return from an evening of darts with friends, you discover that a large number of cars in your area have been destroyed. It happened to a resident of the Bastion in the Emmer district of Emmerschans. The windows of nine cars were smashed.
The majority of the cars destroyed during the night from Friday to Saturday are located on Ravelijn street. Both normal passenger cars and commercial vehicles were targeted there. The window of a Smart was broken on the Bastion street. “It must have happened after half past twelve at night. At least, with our car,” says a resident of the Ravelijn. “No, I haven’t heard anything. And I have never experienced anything like this on this scale here before.”
Another resident of this street was doubly duped, because the window of both his cars was smashed to smithereens. “I received a message from the neighbors this morning. Well, then you’re really disappointed.” During the day, emergency glass was installed in one of his two cars at the site of the destroyed window. It was striking that all the vandalism was committed on the street side. “I saw some points of damage, which makes me suspect it was done with a lifehammer.”
Police called
The destruction was discovered by a resident of the Bastion, who came from the direction of Emmerhout just after three o’clock at night and drove into the Ravelijn street to go home. “I was the bob that evening and had brought friends home. When I was almost home, I saw a car in the Ravelijn with a broken window. And then a few more. I started counting and it turned out that eight cars had been targeted on this street and one in the Bastion. I called the police and they came about an hour later.”
During the course of Saturday, the police issued an Internet appeal for witnesses to come forward. People who think they know more about this demolition tour and/or have camera images that show something relevant are also asked to contact the police.
