77-year-old Catherine Keyl spent a long time at home at the end of last year due to her hernia horror. She is angry about an incorrect diagnosis, which would have made her illness last longer than otherwise. During her illness she lost a lot of income because she could not appear in the media, she tells Weekend.

Not to Japan

It’s a lot of money, Catherine explains. “Precisely. Of course I missed out on a lot of income. I couldn’t write anything, not even my column. How much money is involved? I keep that to myself.”

She was actually going to go on holiday to South Africa during that period. “And I had also booked a big trip to Japan, which of course did not happen either. No, I was not reimbursed because I did not have cancellation insurance.”

Out of money

Catherine cannot catch up on the journey. “No, I don’t have the money anymore. But hey, bad things happen. And there are worse things in life.”

Is the money tap now open again? “Yes, I get asked a lot. I’ve already done seven TV shows in fourteen days. So I can’t complain.”

Relaxed life

Doesn’t Catherine have a good pension then? No, she really has to work for the extras. “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t important, I like being able to live a somewhat relaxed life, yes. I have been incredibly annoyed about how much money it has cost me recently, but now I say: ‘and on again’.”

Wouldn’t she enjoy hooking up with a rich man, like Sylvie Meis always does? “I’m amazed at how she keeps finding such nice men, I’m quite jealous of that.”
