Ghana dismisses national coach after African Cup exit, George Boateng also has to leave | Foreign football

The Ghana Football Association has taken drastic action after the painful elimination from the African Cup of Nations. The day after a 2-0 lead was lost in injury time (2-2) in the decisive group match against Mozambique, it was announced that national coach Chris Hughton will have to leave the field. The other members of the technical staff were also put on guard.

That means bad news for George Boateng. The former Feyenoord player and four-time Dutch national team has been an assistant coach at Ghana, the country where he was born, since 2022.

The ‘Black Stars’ had appointed an experienced national coach last year with 65-year-old Hughton. The former Irish international previously worked as a manager at Newcastle United, Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton and Nottingham Forrest.

Ghana started the African Cup of Nations as one of the outsiders, but only collected two points. The poor performance also caused a lot of unrest off the field. So became Hughton attacked by an angry fanwhile after the last group match angry journalists demanded text and explanation.
