This week, the Cyber Security Center has come to the attention of a deepfake case in Finnish, in which the voice of the CEO of the organization has been cloned and asked to make a large money transfer.
The center tells in his weekly reviewthat there have also been cases in which the voice of a public figure has been faked and statements have been made that the person has not said himself.
However, Finnish-language deep fakes are still rare, according to the Cybersecurity Center.

An attractive method
There are several deepfake technologies, and the use of deepfakes in cybercrime has been talked about in the world’s media for a long time.
– Making deep counterfeits is an attractive way for criminals to deceive the organization’s employees, cause damage to the reputation and create false images, says the Cybersecurity Center’s weekly report.
According to the report, deep fakes have also been used around the world as part of influencing information, for example in relation to social debate, political decisions or elections.
According to the Cybersecurity Center, identifying deepfake material becomes increasingly difficult as technology develops.
This is how you recognize a deep fake
- Be critical of the media. Watch, listen and critically analyze the material.
- Study the video carefully, if possible freeze the image and focus close.
- Fingers and their number of people appearing in the pictures, eye movements and blurs visible in the pictures can reveal a deep fake.
- A deep fake video can also sometimes be recognized by the places where the fake face is placed on the face of the character below. These points may appear unnaturally flat.
- To identify voice fakes, you can ask a person something that only that person would know. Voice fakes may also use non-standard expressions or ask to do something surprising such as large money transfers.

Hot season of scams
Although Finnish-language deepfake scams do not occur very often, other means of cheating are now being actively used, according to the Cyber Security Center’s weekly report.
– There are now a lot of scam companies using different themes and company brand names by e-mail, text message and phone, the report says.
This week, numerous cases have come to our attention in which people’s bank credentials have been hacked with authentic-looking messages.
Messages have been sent in the names of airlines, banks and the OmaKanta service, for example.
– In addition to Finnish banks and companies, scam calls are also made in the name of Bank Norwegian, the weekly report says.
Especially in the name of Nordea, data fishing has been actively practiced in recent days. The messages claim that urgent action is necessary due to a strange payment transaction.

– In both cases, the link leads to a phishing website, where bank credentials are sought. Information entered on a phishing website ends up in the hands of criminals, the Cybersecurity Center’s weekly report says.
