France before reaching the semi-finals

France’s handball players are close to reaching the European Championship semi-finals. The Olympic champion beat Iceland 39:32 (17:14) in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne and celebrated his second victory in the main round.

With 6-0 points, the record world champions remain leaders in Group I. The best two teams in the group of six qualify for the semi-finals.

France dominated the game from the start. The star ensemble around three-time world handball player Nikola Karabatic never once fell behind, but was only able to pull away decisively in the final phase.

For the Icelanders, who are still winless in the main round, the European Championship is almost certainly over after the second phase of the tournament.
