Kilde emotional – “I have never experienced such pain”

A week ago, Aleksander Kilde had a serious fall and was transported away by helicopter. The Norwegian describes the pain as unique.

“I’ve been put together,” was Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s first response after his serious fall at the World Cup in Wengen. Last week, the Norwegian posted a picture of himself and his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin from his hospital bed on Instagram. Kilde had left the slope while descending and crashed into the safety net with great momentum.

In an interview with the Norwegian media “Viaplay” he now says: “I have never experienced such pain before.” Even though the feared broken thigh didn’t materialize, Kilde suffered several injuries that ended the season. He therefore “shelved” a quick comeback.

“The cut is deep”

When he fell into the safety net, Kilde suffered a large cut, which resulted in a small pool of blood on the track. The spectators on site were worried about the ski racer. “The cut is deep, almost to the bone. I got tangled in the safety net, cut my leg and lost a lot of blood. Some nerves were severely damaged, but luckily the motor nerves are still intact. The Some nerve damage will take time to heal. That’s the serious part of the story.”

The 31-year-old can hardly remember the moment of the fall. “The only thing I could think about was my shoulder and how badly it hurt,” Kilde said.

In recent weeks there have been an increasing number of falls in alpine skiing, sparking a discussion about the safety of athletes. Here you can read more about it.
