Who will face PSV in the final of the KNVB Cup on Sunday 17 April? Will AZ be in top form or will it be national champion and cup holder Ajax? The North Holland clash AZ – Ajax can be followed tonight from 7 p.m. in an extra radio broadcast by NH Sport.
The team of AZ coach Pascal Jansen did not have to make an excessive effort to get to the semi-finals. Heracles Almelo (4-1) and RKC Waalwijk (0-4) played with a B-team and were beaten quite easily. With FC Twente, AZ lost an opponent who did take the tournament seriously. Yet the Alkmaarders – without really shining – handed out the sheets in Enschede† It became 1-2.
Also for Ajax, AZ-uit is the most serious opponent to date. The Amsterdammers put the amateurs of Barendrecht (4-0) and Excelsior Maassluis (9-0) easily sidelined and got into the quarterfinals neither serious opposition from Vitesse (5-0).
Last season
Remarkably enough, AZ and Ajax also faced each other in the cup tournament last season. Thanks to a goal by Zakaria Labyad, the team from Amsterdam knocked AZ out of the cup at the time. Despite the minimal difference in the score (0-1) Ajax had to play in an empty stadium no problem with AZ†
Tonight the cup adventure again ends for one of the two North Holland teams. From 7 p.m. you will receive an extensive preview from Alkmaar from our reporters Erik-Jan Brinkman and Frank van der Meijden† At 20:00 the ball starts rolling and the live report follows. With possible extension and penalties and the reactions afterwards, NH Sport will be there until 11 p.m. tonight. Presenter is Stef Swagers†
