That’s how big ASML is: a picture of its growth over the years

With the purchase of three sports and event halls and a playground, ASML is taking over another part of Veldhoven. The company is growing quickly and can therefore make good use of the new land. That started about fifteen years ago, as can be clearly seen on the map showing the growth of the chip machine manufacturer.

ASML wants to use the latest purchase for future expansion plans and the construction of a new road. This concerns the buildings between the Heerseweg, where the company previously purchased thirteen residential homes, and the ASML buildings to the east of there. The purchase closes a clear gap, as can be seen on this card:

A number of things stand out on the map:

  • The current head office will only turn yellow in 2018, because it was only purchased then.
  • ASML also purchased properties in Oirschot in 2021, these are not on the map.
  • Also not on the map: the location of the old head office two kilometers away.
  • The meadows south of the A67 have belonged to ASML since 2023, but no construction will take place here. ASML has a pipe for water drainage, and there will also be a high-voltage station.

The start in 1985
It all started for ASML in 1985. The company started with around 100 employees in the iconic building at De Run 1000 in Veldhoven. There are now more than 40,000. The building was recently demolished, and ASML wants to use four new office buildings on this site in 2024.

The current head office is located two kilometers further, at De Run 6501. This building was put into use in 2002. It is this part of Veldhoven where the company would expand considerably in the years that followed.

From companies to homes
In 2004, the buildings owned by ASML were still manageable. But in the years that followed, more and more were added. Six purchases were made in 2008, causing the map to become increasingly yellow. 2012 is also a good year with seven new buildings, but in 2021 (12 buildings) things are going really fast.

Veldhoven will start to notice it in 2023. 38 properties are being purchased, including a whole row of thirteen houses on Heerseweg. What 2024 will bring, in addition to the purchased sports complex, is still unknown, but the spots on the map that are not yet in the hands of ASML are becoming scarce…

In September 2022 we got a look at ASML’s already enormous terrain:
