Bonucci successor

Only nine players have so far been active for six or more different Bundesliga clubs. Now Kevin Vogt increases the number to ten. The central defender is leaving TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and joining 1. FC Union Berlin. The “Iron” officially announced the signing of the 32-year-old, who follows Leonardo Bonucci (36), who is moving to Fenerbahce, on Thursday – without mentioning the term of his contract. The last replacement was “Sky“ of less than 2 million euros and therefore an amount just below market value.
During his career in the Bundesliga, Vogt also played for VfL Bochum, for whom he made his debut in 2009, FC Augsburg, 1. FC Köln and Werder Bremen. In the league’s history, just nine other professionals played for six or more different Bundesliga teams, only Michael Spies even played for seven (for the complete statistics).
Wandervogel: Player with the most clubs in the Bundesliga
The reason for Vogt’s desire to move from Sinsheim to Berlin may be, among other things, the financial prospects. According to Kicker magazine, Union offered a higher salary than Vogt earned since his extension in January 2022 to 2025 in Hoffenheim. The people of Sinsheim also confirmed this. “Kevin has been at TSG since July 2016 and can almost be described as an institution in our Bundesliga history. He now made it clear to us that he no longer sees his future in the TSG jersey and that he absolutely wants to accept the offer from Union Berlin, which is certainly unusual for a 32-year-old player and can be described as extremely attractive. We discussed the situation and the associated consequences and finally decided to let Kevin go,” said Managing Director Alexander Rosen.
The former team captain was set for TSG and only missed 120 minutes in the first half of the season. Nevertheless, coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has many options; a total of seven central defenders are still in the squad (for an overview). The 20-year-old Leopold Querfeld from Rapid Vienna was also recently traded, but he should also be in the focus of other teams.

“I’m looking forward to the team, the club, the stadium and the challenges that lie ahead of us in the coming months. “Union is a fascinating club and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey in the capital and successfully competing in the second half of the season together with my new colleagues,” explained Vogt.
“Kevin is a player who is courageous, can lead a team and will do our team good with his mentality and willpower. He knows the Bundesliga extremely well and is ready to take this path with us right now. We are very pleased about his commitment,” said managing director Oliver Ruhnert, commenting on the transfer.
