A 41-year-old man from Sprang-Capelle and his 15-year-old son were arrested on Wednesday morning. They are suspected of assaulting a 22-year-old man from the same village around half past three on New Year’s Eve.
The victim left a party with his girlfriend and cycled across the Weegbree. There was a group of young people at the intersection with the Reiger, including the 15-year-old suspect. When the couple cycled through the group, the victim was hit with a steel object. He was then kicked and punched and his girlfriend was also punched.
The 41-year-old suspect then intervened in the argument, causing the fight to get even more out of hand. He allegedly kicked the victim in the head, among other things.
The victim suffered serious injuries from the brawl and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Father and son have been arrested and are still in custody.
