UMK artists disappointed many even before a single song was released.
The new artists of the New Music Competition were announced on Wednesday, January 10. This year, Cyan Kicks are fighting for Finland’s five-year representation, Sini Sabotage, Mikael Gabriel and Nublu, Sex man, Sara Siipola, Jesse Mark’s and Windows95 man.
Many of the fans feverishly followed the UMK artists’ announcement broadcast. During and after the broadcast, many expressed their direct opinions about the artists in, among others, X, Jodel and In the discussion section of Yle Arena’s live broadcast.
Many social media users are already disappointed with the artists, even though not a single song has been heard yet. Many also paid attention to how many of the UMK contestants are rappers.
– Hohoijakka, you shouldn’t judge before the h-moment, but yes, these UMK artists are like being at a youth party. Not exciting.
– I expected a completely different coverage when there is all this UMK hype and the Nokia Arena instead of Logomo.
– Not very convincing this year. Of course, the songs haven’t been released yet, and that may still give you a chance. However, I believe that this year we won’t even make it to the finals.
– I can’t wait for UMK in 2025. Namely, this year’s coverage is absolutely shit.
– We’re going to lose our wits.
– Somehow I remembered the sketch characters of a program of a competing channel.
– Can the Wrapper be put back on?
– Thanks again to Yle for the disappointment of the year.

However, when writing the article, many people seemed to be especially excited about Sexmane. The rapper is known to have a large fan base, especially among young people.
– We won’t make it if Sexmane isn’t in Eurovision.
– You people could vote for Sexmanee. I want Kuopio/Siilinjärvi energy for Eurovision.
– Isn’t Max Sene the clear winner, such a big fan base.
– Okay, now it’s hard to win the vote.
– Dear Siilinjärvi and Sexmane!
– There is no favorite except Sexmane.

Many were especially disappointed that the artists did not come as a surprise, as the artists were revealed before their time. The list of alleged UMK contestants began to spread on social media already at the beginning of January in Facebook groups and Jodel.
Information about the artists of the year again less than three hours before the announcement event, when material about UMK artists appeared on the Storifyme website, the service provider used by Yle. UMK’s chief producer Anssi Autio told Iltalehte that Yle is currently investigating the matter, and cannot comment further on the matter for the time being.
Käärijä represented Finland in Eurovision last year with his song Cha Cha Cha. The phenomenally popular Käärijä finished second, while the Swedish representative took the win Loreen.
The winner of the New Music Competition will be decided on Saturday, February 10 at Nokia Arena. The Eurovision Song Contest will be held this year in May in Malmö, Sweden.
