Victor Boniface from Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will miss the Africa Cup due to injury.
After Nigerian media had already reported on the striker’s injury, Boniface confirmed his absence on Instagram on Monday evening. There he wished his teammates on the Nigerian national team good luck for the Africa Cup and added a broken heart. He had previously missed the friendly against Guinea.
It is still unclear exactly what injury the 24-year-old has and whether he will be missing from his club in the long term.
Boniface, who came from Belgian club Union St. Gilloise in the summer, is Leverkusen’s top scorer this Bundesliga season with ten goals.
