Does Red Bull have to worry about the upcoming Formula 1 season? Most recently it was said that the new F1 car had failed the FIA’s first important crash test. But motorsport consultant Helmut Marko was now unimpressed by the rumors.
Before the first test drives take place at the Bahrain International Circuit near Sachir at the end of February, the new Formula 1 cars must undergo various tests to ensure that the F1 team has complied with all safety standards.
But it is precisely in one of these tests that the new Red Bull car with the name RB20 is said to have failed. The Italian edition of “motorsport.com” reported this last week.
Max Verstappen’s new car failed because of a structural weak point in the nose. There was a “serious problem” here, it was said. So yellow alert in Milton Keynes? Not at all!
According to Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko, there is no reason to worry. On the contrary. If the RB20 had passed the test safely in the first round, it would have been worried, as Marko indicated.
The Austrian, who will also be on site as an advisor to Red Bull in all 24 races in the upcoming season, told “motorsportweek.com”: “If we had passed the first crash test, that would have been exactly the problem. Then we would have something not done right.”
Red Bull is changing the nose for Formula 1 cars
What Marko, who only indirectly confirmed the rumors, may have meant with his statements: In the search for the greatest possible advantages, Red Bull and Co. sometimes go beyond what is permitted in order to be able to fully exploit the limits.
According to “motorsport.com”, the Austrian racing team is currently working on getting the problem under control with another layer of carbon and thereby making the very narrow nose more stable.
Unlike Red Bull, the nine teams did not have this problem, according to the report. They have all passed their crash tests and received the green light from the FIA.
